Or you can call Melanie Emerson at 330-559-3700 and she will arrange another way to get your donation. Everyone who has not yet signed up for the banquet needs to call Melanie Emerson by Tuesday, March 9th to say how many people are coming in your group. Payment can be given to Coach Sue at practice or late signer-uppers can pay at the door on the day of the banquet. If you have outstanding Divisional, Presidential or League fees due, you must also pay these at the door when you come to the banquet.
Thanks!
CONGRATULATIONS! The Youngstown Y-Neptunes placed third overall at the League Championship Meet. This is the first time since I have been coaching that the Neptunes placed in the top three at Leagues. Twenty-four teams competed on Saturday at Cleveland State University. And what a spectacular showing! The time dropped was phenomenal. The extra efforts were fantastic. The results – awesome!
Highlights of Leagues include Gina Ungaro earning a meet record in the 9 & 10 girls 50 yard butterfly. Dani Cabrera breaking a minute in the 11 & 12 girls 100 free earning her both a Zone time and a place in the Y-Neptune’s Minute Club. Zach Burrelli achieved a Zone time in the 11 & 12 boys 50 breast. Taylor Tofil destroyed the Zone qualifying time in the 11 & 12 girls 100 IM. Zoe Sommers’ 25.90 YMCA Zone time in the 13 & 14 girls 50 yard free also earned her a trip to Nebraska this summer for USA Zones. The 9 & 10 boys improved on their 200 Medley Relay Zone time by… 7 seconds? Who does that?! I honestly think almost all the afternoon session relays (9 & 10 and 11 & 12 age groups) dropped time – heck, just about everyone who swam earned a personal best time. It was a fun, energized day topped off by that third place finish over-all. Excellent!
Then to top off the weekend, several Y-Neptune swimmers attended North Canton’s Last Chance Invitational on Sunday, March 7 at the North Canton YMCA. Dani Cabrera earned another Zone time in the 11 & 12 girls 50 butterfly, and Tess Emerson came away with her own Zone time in the 9 & 10 girls 50 yard breaststroke. Congratulations, girls!
Practices this week for Zone qualifiers will be– 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. for 13 and older on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday and 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday for 12 and under. If you are not able to make the earlier practice, please just come to the later practice sessions. Everyone should try to make every practice between now and our last day of practice, Thursday, March 18. We still have some work to do before Zones. Come ready to work hard this week and then we’ll ease off next week.
Our Y-Neptune Banquet takes place this Friday, March 12 at the Georgetown. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. The banquet will begin at 5:30 p.m. How we run the banquet will be a bit different this year. From the time the doors open you can participate in the Chinese auction until the banquet starts. We will present all awards first. We will then eat dinner after the awards. After everyone has had their meal – the music and dancing begins with the Chinese Auction items being raffled during dinner and dancing to close out the night. Be sure to bring your Chinese Auction donation to the pool this week and give it to Coach Sue. We would like to have all the items set-out before doors open at the banquet. Be sure to bring extra $$$ and a pen so you can purchase raffle tickets and write your names on the tickets. Items received so far include Vera Bradley items, movie gift certificates, WebKins, and even a huge pasta bowled filled with 40 pasta shaped one dollar bills! Our families are so creative! If you are having trouble getting your donation to the pool this week, call Melanie Emerson at 330-559-3700 and she will help arrange a pick-up or drop-off. Thanks!!

Attention All Neptune Swimmers from Coach Sue...
It's smack-down time. Time to see what you're made of. Time to put purpose in your practice.
Time for the King Neptune Challenge!!
What is the King Neptune Challenge you ask? Let me tell ya...
Any swimmer who swims every dual meet event offered for their age group over the course of the Neptune swim season will have conquered the King Neptune Challenge. The events swum can be done at Neptune dual meets, YMCA invitationals or USA meets. You must finish each event and not be disqualified. So if the breaststroke kick is daunting, better get it legal. If the 100 fly seems impossible, better focus on that stroke in practice.
Everyone is automatically pre-entered into the King Neptune Challenge, but who will succeed?
REQUIREMENTS
* 8 & Unders must swim 25 yards of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly and do the 50 yard freestyle.
* 9 & 10s and 11 & 12s must swim 50 yards of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly as well as a 200 free, 100 free and 100 IM (individual medley).
* 13 & 14 and 15 & Over swimmers must swim a 50 of freestyle, a 100 of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, as well as a 200 freestyle, 200 IM, and 500 freestyle.
All swimmers who complete the King Neptune Challenge will win a cool King Neptune Challenge pin to put on their swim bag; warm-up jacket; high schoolers - put the pin on your swim letter.
The Pin is the award.
***High school swimmers, please turn in your times and events to Coach Sue when you swim at high school meets to meet the eligibility requirements for this award. Thank you.
Remember we share our YMCA with other members...even during HOME meets.
Here are a few do's and don'ts to remember:
DO | DON'T |
DO Enjoy your snacks in the Youth Lobby | DON'T Sneak a snack in the gym area |
DO WALK through our halls and deck area with your shoes on. | DON'T RUN to any area of the YMCA |
DO - NEPTUNE families are encouraged to use the RIGHT half of the gym. | DON'T Forget to welcome our visitors |
DO - NEPTUNE families are encouraged to network with other families (in different age groups) so that eveyone can see their child swim. This is important when sitting in the bleachers. | DON'T Forget to be considerate to others. |
THANK YOU!
